Family-Friendly Colorado Splendor
We gave this family a space to enjoy for every age group! We created several areas to build memories and share stories for years to come. The adults have a cozy fire pit area lined with plantings and, well, the kiddos have the rest of the yard for fun and games. Even their own flagstone patio for their playhouse and tea parties 😉

About this Project
With a very functional and practical design we were able to completely transform this yard so it could be used by everyone! We wanted to keep the modern vibe of the home’s interior and carry that into elements of the landscaping. We used corten steel throughout the yard in building new walls and edging while incorporating natural elements like Colorado Buff flagstone and hardy plantings.
The lines are clean and sharp in the hardscaping and the tones are darker to compliment the theme of the home. We worked around the beautiful Maple that was existing and concrete walls that separated this yard from the neighbors. We poured new concrete walls to match that also help separate the outdoor “rooms”. This is the goal of outdoor living; to bring the home’s aesthetic outdoors and create rooms that everyone can enjoy.
We kept the front yard a bit more simple – we re-defined the planting beds layout with straight lines at an angle to fit the modern look. We installed a new Colorado Buff Flagstone patio in the front yard so the parents can spend their evenings enjoying the beautiful sunsets while watching all the neighbor kids playing. The plantings are very intentional and will hold up to the strong and hot evening sun. There are about a dozen different varieties of plant life in the front yard so there is appeal during the three main growing seasons while offering many different looks and textures to the yard. Can’t forget the lighting! Up lights were added to accentuate some of the plantings, path lights for safety and security, and cafe lights for the “adult” area so it can be enjoyed well beyond sunset.
